The best location is the one that supports the brief and the schedule. Use these areas as a planning shortlist, then ask your photographer about current access, light and permission requirements.
Planning principle
Choose one visual story and a realistic route. Two nearby areas with useful shooting time usually work better than crossing Istanbul for a checklist of landmarks.
Sultanahmet
Monumental architecture and recognisable Istanbul context. Early morning is usually calmer; security, opening hours, worship times and heavy visitor traffic can limit where and when a session works.
Galata & Karaköy
Stone streets, stairs, shopfronts, cafés and contrasting modern surfaces. Routes are steep and busy, so a short walking loop is more practical than a long landmark list.
Balat & Fener
Colour, worn walls and neighbourhood texture. Treat homes and residents respectfully, keep crews small and avoid blocking narrow streets or using private façades without permission.
Kadıköy & Moda
Street life, markets, cafés and Asian-side shoreline sunsets. It suits relaxed portraits and editorial work, with ferry travel adding time but also a strong visual transition.
Kuzguncuk
A compact residential neighbourhood with wooden houses, small streets and a quieter rhythm. Popular corners can still become crowded; keep equipment and the route considerate.
Beşiktaş & Ortaköy
Bosphorus access, dense urban energy and iconic waterfront views. Weekends can be extremely busy, and private hotel or palace grounds require their own access arrangements.
Şişli & business districts
Hotels, conference venues, offices and modern streets for corporate portraits and events. Ask the venue about loading, security, room access and where lighting can be set up.

- Where can the group wait, change clothes or shelter from rain and wind?
